Sussed already The Sysops at RTE have noticed the IM port activity, and have (wait for it) REMOVED Shockwave from the terminals in the Studios!

This means no IM Webclients, and NO Habbo Hotel and so on..

            Hmmm.

Sound like they be good sysadmins to me (which is what you want since we the Irish Citizens are footing their bill), but there are ways around it.

HTTP (TCP port 80) is usually left wiiiiide open so sysadmins don't get trouble tickets from every stooge in the gaff looking for THAT particular page that isn't served in via the proxy, but all things said:

www.meebo.com lets you "spoof" a load of IM connectivity under the sun via plain auld http port 80.

The boys on Bitlebee (http://www.bitlbee.org/main.php/news.r.html) also have big time access, allowing anyone who has an IRC client to talk to *every* Instant Message protocol on the web.

If you don't have an IRC client, they now appear as plugins - eg. Firefox has Chatzilla - (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/16) for that.

I'm not sure I got the energy to author a HOWTO on breaking into RTE, but I *do* have some time to kill before September
