Not really....cos to be honest I couldnt give two fucks if the eejit down the road from me was DJ'ing or doing a liveset
You dont get famous for having a bit of a local following, you get famous for doing something of note.
Granted theres alot of knobs that are famous, but theyre famous cos they had that brilliant/mediocre but critically acclaimed album out or cos they bagged a residency at such & such a club.
Its all very easy to stand there with your keyboard/bag of records shouting "support yer own" & giving out about nobody taking an interest in you, but until you make them no-ones ever gonna give a bollocks

Obviously yeah but i wasn talking about fame! I said people should support their own, ya no bring a few mates & go and catch Power, Springer, Sunil Sharpe etc etc.... all quality DJ's! And yeah granted headin down the club with a few of the boys to catch homegrown DJ's wont get them the attention that the likes of ****** receives because of his album + 30,000 stadium gigs, but is it really about that?
Honestly, u spin records because you love the music right? so do i, i dunno what id do without the tunes, sure it'd be nice to make a few quid at doin something you love but personally i cudn give 2fucks if i dont become a millionaire makin music/ DJn as long as im healthy and happy bangin out a few records! You mite say thers no Dj's like that but have u ever met Alan Pullen for e.g! And ul probly laugh at this but even tho the dance scene will probly never be as big as it was in 99/00, this country will have big homegrown successful events yet, the talent in this country cant be denied forever!

Anyone who puts lots of their time, lots of their money & lots of practise & effort into DJ'ing/Producing wants to be recognised as much as they can for it....be that getting on the cover of Mixmag or else just being known as the local "cool dj" type to the nice blonde girl in your village....anyone who says they dont is either a liar or a boring cunt
Im not talking about jimmy from down the road who has a set of soundlab belt drives & buys the odd tune to keep him happy....but about the people who come out & say "nobody gives a fuck about us cos we're irish".....when in truth the answer is "nobody gives a fuck about you because your nobody".
Springer & the Powerfella dont come into this, theyre established radio names.....if John Power had never made the step up from Pulse to 2fm would you be going to see him DJ? Course you wouldnt...
You can discuss it over & over till the cows come home, but the simple fact is that the scene isnt big enough to support Irish homegrown talent, the interest just isnt there & to be honest I dont really think it ever will be.
Phil Kierans done it....John O'Callaghans doing it.....whos next?Last edited by Ricer; Tue 21-06-2005, 7:55 PM.

Yeah i put a lot of money, time, effort and a painful amount of work into my stuff, and a mixmag cover..cert,who the fuck wudn! as 4the sexy blonde in the village i cudn care less if she thinks im 'cool' or not..this aint high school or the OC or some shit
All valid points Ricer, and we could go on about it til the cows come home, but fuck that! as for whos next? Who nos mate! Whatabout Bono?
I'll be honest & admit that Ive never really taken an interest in Irish productions, over the years Ive heard good & Ive heard bad....nothing enough to make me sit up & think...wow,thats absolutely fucking amazing though.
Then again if I was in your enviroment Pete that would probably be a different story
Just cos somebody has the talent dosnt mean they'll get to that status, you've gotta play the game & make the right decisions....theres possibly 250 other JOC's out there, but only one of them may have the confidence & cop on to send their stuff out to labels & DJ's...same way Timmy had stuff on Manifesto
Holland is famous for its trance producers...thus why theres aot of famous big name dutch trance djs.
France to me is gay house music for some reason (with the exception of Garnier & some other techno etc), the UK is everything together...take mylo for instane, some scottish smackhead looking bloke (believe me hes worse in person) who knocked up a few tunes on a Mac, sends'em to Pete Tong & suddenly hes dance musics saviour according to every magazine out there.......I just dont think the "quality prodution" scene here in Ireland has been around long enough to both gain support for itself & to know what the fuck it actually is...cos from an outsiders point of view beyond the pale, all it is to me is a gang of producer heads in Dublin who talk about synths all day & run the odd gig or two
