Do you know anyone who is in the Uk for more than 6 months, get them to buy it for you on your behalf and then bring it over. If they can prove that they have lived over in the UK for the past six months you won't have to pay vrt and then get it changed over to your name.
The biggest mistake i made when i was over there was not buying a car. I spent all my money on clubbing and having a good time!!
Now I'm rolling around in a shitty punto

Just hold out, when you get past 30 Insurance gets easier.. i Drove Volvos and Opals till i got old enuf to Afford Insurance on a Cruise-Missle..
Also: there is a VRT calculator on the Revenue website, Google "VRT calculator", its a good guide to what your local tax office will want for the Switch to Irish blah.. Dont buy ANYTHING from the UK without a Carcheck - lots of places do them - to see if it's been stolen or crashed or whatever, and then have the RAC or AA have a once-over and do a report for you - remember if you buy a lemon, you are stuck with it, so spending 200- stg on a checkout, and a history (run its reg plate) will save you untold pain...

well i have to agree there.. was in a crash in a Mini in my teens, and from then only drove cars that will go THROUGH things they crash into, or will Bounce off!
Luxary you say? Well, you need look no further then the executive TOYOTA range..
Perfect 1st cars: Celcior, Chaser and Soarer - all Rammed full of Luxary Padded Win, and Soon to be available for even less.. How about a nice 1996 Toyota Celcior 4.0 Supercharged? No, its not a Fast car as such, it needs the 4.0SC to move since its as big as a town.. If you crash in this baby, you wont notice till you get home!!!
As usual, Carzone.ie is the place to research your new Toyota Musclecar..
