mickey mac ! and anyone that had decks were pretty popular lol
from early days when i started goin out it was kavanagh as ya mentioned and warrenk, dilly , pressure ,francois, thyme, dean sherry ,johnny moy , david holmes etc depends on where your from really, where ya went, and the lucky local lad that had decks to spin in a club was when a few genres existed i.e..house,techno, trance and not the amount you are bombarded with now

..as far as irish DJs go, MEK and DJ Wicked were the first with a profile for playing in clubs.. Wicked was in with the Leeson St. Strip mob, MEK played sporadicly, never having a residency.. that was 89-90 season.. Wicked made a couple of singles, and MEK formed Scary Eire after winning the Irish DMC heats a zillion times..

There were no clubs as such that resemble what we have now.. Alot of the time it was 1-offs doing support in McGonagles (became THE SYSTEM) and so on for Mek..

Soon, JOHNNY MOY was bringing in DJs to The Pink Elephant (now reynards) and later the Waterfront , while clubs like SIDES and the Olympic grew in the background mostly using residents.. SIDES was the the first "proper" club everyone heard of, so it was natural it would become the first serious venue, with the Olympic building a reputation from Student Gigs (Johnny & Mark) and becoming the Saturday Night benchmark for messiness alongside.. The Asylum (abraxis i think in a previous life) took another year or 2 to catch on..

From 1991 on really, The usual suspects were Doing the bizz: Mark Kavanagh, Johnny Moy, Greg & Shane, Liam Dollard, Billy Scurry and then Pressure (under various names), Mark Dixon and Stem followed on '93-4ish..

N.Ireland seemed to have Higher-Profile DJs, maybe it was just because i rarely actually MET them, while i saw all of the above alot more: X-Ray, Homer (David Holmes) & Ian McReedy were well respected..

Darren Flynn? After the TEMPLE THEATRE went, he made his move to the UK permenent.. I got an email or 2 from him after he left - seemed to be happy with the change.. I think he got out of the music scene.

Wait, there ware lots of others too mind (mick walshe etc.), i just name these as they were the cream of the crop at the time, and i have flyers with their names on from back then..
