Kiddstock Spotlight #1 - Kamui
Don't be fooled into thinking that the young age of these guys should be any reflection on their ability, because at the tender ages of 21 and 22 what they lack in maturity they more than make up in talent.
They now have more than 30 releases of their own productions over several respected record labels and continue to develop their own very individual sound, namely 'hard funk'.
With dates such as Defqon 1 and Kiddstock plus a mini tour of Australia and gigs all over Europe this summer, you’re set to be busy boys! What else have you got in store?
We just recently finished our follow up release to “Electro Slut”. It’s called “Toolbox EP” and will contain two clubby and experimental tracks named “Werkzeug” and “Spielzeug”. The vinyl release on Fe Records is going to be on the 10th of July, mp3 release will be one week later!
You describe your production sound as being ‘hard funk’. What can we expect from your DJ set at Kiddstock?
A lot of own productions of course and a few sneaky and unreleased remixes, edits and mashups to give you guys the special Kamui treatment ;-)
Your biggest production so far has to be the massive Electro Slut, getting played by what looks like a who’s who of the biggest and best DJ’s and receiving rave reviews. Why do you think the tune did so amazingly well?
For the last months we sat down together and analyzed the development of the electronic club scene to find out why exactly electro/house/minimal became so successful and why harder music went a bit downhill.
The reason is that at the moment you can find the biggest innovation process going on within that genre. Unfortunately it is just not banging enough and lacking in climaxes. Hence why for us it has never been an option to become a “slut” like a lot of other producers did when they decided to go where the people and the money is. That’s why we produced “Electro Slut” to prove that it is possible to work with the good aspects of electro & co but still keep it rough, banging and energetic, reminding the party people that 128 BPM are no good! ;-)
We’re very happy that there seem to be more people out there who think alike!
If you could work with anyone, who would you most love to collaborate with on a future production?
Robbie Williams but unfortunately he’s doing UFO science now I’ve heard! Nah seriously, we’re always up for working with people who have a special and cool sound.
Last year’s Kiddstock was a huge success, seeing 1300 clubbers from all over the UK and beyond raving in the Durham countryside. What are your expectations for the event and do you think you are ready for the North East style of partying?!
This is the first Kamui gig in the North East so it will be exciting to see what it’s like over there. And yes – we’re ready like a 7 year old is ready for Santa on the 25th of December ;-)
