  • Have we reached the end?

Ive got to admit, ive lost a terrible amount of interest in seeing trance dj's.

I used enjoy it, maybe its my kicking the small fellas thats caused it? that said i wasnt exactly indulging in that nonsense very long...... I can honestly say that its been a long time since i went to a gig and said.. christ that was some set. or even really looking forward to a set from halliwell because it could lead anywhere!

IMO everyone is playing the same tunes or the same style and its getting boring! Anyone else share my sentiments?

im refering to these new dj's from europe by the way

2 years ago at the summer session in fairyhouse i played 'SICK OF TRANCE by lacuna origin'. I did this for 2 reasons: 1 - i realised i hadn't played out a trance record in years and needed to 'come out' as being sick of trance, and 2 - the tune rocked.

It seems trance has fallen victim to the same cancer that killed hard house. Shame, but about time. I think 11 years of supersaw leadsounds and 16-beat basslines is enough, don't you?

Another problem is the mailing lists.. It used to be SO tuff getting 'upfront' tunes.. you had to lick the asses of list-managers, and then lie about how great the stuff you were sent was to get at the good stuff in advance of the shops.. But, this only ever filled out the box - the BIG tunes were always the ones that were DIFFERENT and NEW.. Imports & the risk-takers, that couldn't afford a big mailout and didn't have a record company behind them always pushed things in a new direction.. So, mailing lists made you FEEL better off, but if i look over my sets from the past, the mailing list gear didn't really matter in retrospect.

For a couple of years now, 'mailouts' are e-mailouts.. and that costs nothing. I freely admit to cutting off my weekly review of offers at 500 titles. Thats the most i listen to every week. From those 500 titles i choose what you hear on the radio & in clubs. This is about 10 times what i used to get per week, but the bad news is, 85% of it is total crap or soundalike nonsense. The fact is, you dont NEED to risk anything anymore to promote your tune, so, the quality control is gone. even so-called majors in the game are pumping out the rubbish daily, because there is NO RISK. There is a TIDAL WAVE of the same old stuff, and the good tunes GET LOST IN THIS.

Trance is a victim of this tidal-wave of crap, and almost total lack of quality control. Don't get me wrong, i was there, i played the LIMBO and PLATIPIUS records in the early 90's, i longed for the sound to mature, and i was on that bitch like face-cancer when it kicked off, but my thrill is gleaned from NEW MUSIC and NEW EXPERIENCES, and trance is very very fuc*ing far from the sound of the new right now, so, i am actually well past being sick of it.
