  • Xmas 2010 - the end of the world as we know it

So. The snow was fun the first time, for about 5 minutes. Then i got stuck in the first big drift on my home from the Tripod (recording DC) on that friday night.. ended up digging myself out of a roundabout with a tire iron - literally scraping tracks into the snow to get a 'take off' into it to limp home.. Traction control is no use in fresh crunchy snow!! Then, like an idiot, i go to work in the car on the saturday, and leave DURING a blizzard.. only to abandon the car 2 miles down the road in the hotel of choice - again after being caught in a drift, this time at a junction. Luckily, i had brought my shovel and some salt, so i got accross the road and made it home using the local taxi service, who just happened to have a driver on who lived out my way and was going home.

Oh, BTW, if you have to bail on YOUR car in the stillorgan park hotel car park, don't bother asking the smiling idiot at reception for any help, he will refuse to give you the number of ANY taxi firm, like a total c*nt.

3 days later when i get back to the car, a crisp packet inside had frozen stuck to a CD cover. So, be warned, if you stay inside the car, it will freeze, and so will you.

so THIS batch of snow is not as professional looking, but it is a shitload colder. so cold we have no water here.. and no water means low system pressure in the heating, so no heating. fu*k yeah snow.

I would like to take this oppertunity to blame everyone else for this, especially the government. cu*ts. it's definatly their fault. or the brits. or the yanks. actually, all of them.

so, what to do? electric heaters, boil water to wash, stock up on peat and those big 2litre lads of water. lol washing everything in the sink, and wear a coat indoors. I may start drinking heavily also.

I now know why people emigrated from here wholsale in the past - because it is mild enough so we make no plans for shit like this, so get DICKED. it a gamble, one we lost on this year.

Lol.. well, i fixed the frozen pipes thing today - brainwave was that the pipes pass across and thru' some concrete, so at these points i layed some of dunnes boutique's finest ICE CUBE MAKING BAGS (79c for 10) filled with hot & salty water..

Within 10 minutes the flow came back, now we can flush the jax, get the heating on and wash things..

This was all WITHOUT touching the pipes under a foot of snow - it was the junctions of pipe-to-pipe and the outdoor/garden tap and stopcock that were frozen..

The LAST time anyone i know remembers pipes freezing was in 1969 - same time of year.. Weird.
