Right I have been quiet on this until I had it totally owned and turned into a useful spare toy more or less. A mate in UK sent me one for nothing bar the postage.Not stolen, he owed me a few favours work related so I said give me your spare iFail,I want to turn it into my basement victim.
However I question his own judgement on his purchase of the 4GS .. anyway .
So, along lines of Rupert Watch:
1. First thing before even turned it on, was dload redsnow and at least jailbroke it so I could tell it to do what I want , not what deaduncle sTeve wanted.
2.Installed Cydia repo.
3. Installed some thing to remove almost ALL Stock Apps. in fact the last App to be deleted is iTunes, it fucking stinks. I cannot even get it to recognise files I drop into its tree.
4.Installed a file manager thing,so I can then create a folder called SHITE where I have managed nicely drop my music.
5.Installed VLC and iMame. Bit of tweaking with mame with the roms, but almost thwere.
6.Installed some audio media player thing where I get the CHOICE of what and where I listen or watch my files. ie none of this syncing itunes fail.
7.Installed a webserver so I can in windows or whatever upload files directly as you can with any droid on a good day.
8.Registered a ficticious apple account with nonsensical details so I can at least take the free stuff from their hideous app store for amusement.
9.Opened a beer and laughed ans I watched some WMV file on the beast.
10. Question why ANYONE would pay for this hideous locked down phone.
11. Forgot installed Ad Blocker and removed some other folder which was feeding Apple or whoever stats data-
Bottom line, this cost me nothing, it porvided me with 3 days of entertainment outsmarting Steve and his cohorts. I await the untethered jailbreak and will have further fun. I can see the attraction of the "lifestyle" product,but the firmware is hideous.
Just as well I own a mac to have had the ability to do all this tweaking in first place.
Oh yes didnt you know how awkward they made it if you DONT run OSX if you want it to do anything.
Connect it in windows and all it sees is the cameras. Like WFT..
lol iPhone, go back to bed. And a MONO speaker ffs.. N900 is where its at. Yes Maemo is hardly awsome but least I can control it. with 90% of the stock apps deleted, its running great now the rebranding. call it it the i404
