Ah ya cant bate vinyl, i couldn imagine havin 2 cdj's instead of Technics! Havin said that i am going to need at least 1at some stage to put my own productons into mixes, not pushed on spendin big bucks at the mo on em tho wen i could get a mate out wit his wen i need em 4 that! Id have a big interest in that ableton tho, ill sort myself wit that at sum stage!
vinyl all the way! and here's why: ANYONE can bang up a cd with da laptop - made in REASON or FRUITYLOOPS, burned with NERO.. While to commit to Vinyl means serious thought and planning.. call it QUALITY CONTROL.
also, i get about 30 CDs a week.. some from newbs, some from established labels and artists, and to be honest, i`m not impressed with them.. all this pre-pre-release nonsense!! it's just them asking me to A&R for them! Sorry, i'm looking for tunes, not to tell people where they are going wrong in my book.. they should KNOW what is cool, and they should NOT CARE what people think - this is true expression, this is art.. Running about trying to please everyone is the realm of boybands and kiddies..
very true... to be honest i use cd only when i cant get a tune on vinly or to play my own material out. as for people usin ableton, i think its a joke. people could be checkin there e mails during there set or lookin up porn

Ah, the old CD versus Vinyl debate... Well I think, and have always thought, that DJing is about the music, and if it's not about the music then what is it about. So assuming I'm correct there (which, you'll find, I usually am on these types of things) then there is no difference whether you use CDs or Vinyl. there are distinct advantages and disadvantages to each.
In favour of CDs is the fact that it's possible to bring your entire music collection to every gig, so you can play what you like without having to pre-select tunes for the night.
You can download music onto CDs, so the likes of djdownload.com clickgroove.com etc are your record shops. To add to that avenue, shopping online is a pretty cool way to do it, being able to search by artist, label, or even keyword is unique to online shops. You can do it from home, or anywhere, and you don't have to worry about pissing anyone off by cueing up 100 previews!
However, you can't listen to whatever section of the tracks you want, so this isn't as good as actually previewing with a vinyl...
Vinyl, on the other hand, is the original, never will it be replaced by CDs in terms of old-skool respect... With decks like the numark CDX it's technical advantages are dwindling, no more is scratching and spinbacks exclusive to records.
The "touch and feel" of vinyl is not going to be replaced by CD decks, to a certain extent the CDX does this but it's not the real thing.
Personally I use CDs, have done forever (7 years) and I'm not likely to change now. I've copped a bit of shit for this but in my opinion, DJs who see fit to diss other DJs because of a choice of format are a bit shallow anyway.
Each to his own and all that, but I'll be sticking with CDs, mostly cos they're shinier!
