  • Beware : Ruthless Australian Djs

    Whats up folks,

After a long weekend im finally pulling my head out of my arse and am nearly back over the hill. This weekend was emotional for me i have to say........

After a big build up to my Mindstorm gig in Perth Australia, i was sorley let down by the ethics held by the djs there......I have always known Irish djs to be territorial of their residencies in clubs. This i can understand, as none of us want to loose or pole position to any1 else, but even us Irish stop at a point.
On arriving in the club which was well decked out, i was thinking, this will be a good1 kevy........How wrong i was........The tunes the other djs were playing were so old there were cobwebs on them, e.g cortina - Music is moving which is ok if dropped in the middle of a modern set, but not if ur playing it bk2bk with all the old Nucleus records.............jesus.........

When i finally got up there and started hoping out my hardstyle, My so called competition came in to the dj booth, with 2 of the other djs who had played. They began to crowd me, and start fucking around with the effects on the pioneer......while i was playing.....deliberately getting in my way, trying to put me off......Then the dj who was playing after me "check this out" he lifted the arm off the record while i was still on, and my tune was blasting out over the P.A system.........the club went silent and everybody was left on the dancefloor in mid dance with stupid looks on there faces.....needless to say there was booing and dirty looks.

He then shouts "u want some more" and puts the needle back down in a totally differnt part of the record.............I have never been so stunned in my life and was speechless..........I said "what the fuck are u doing man, im playing a set" he looked at me and said "im on now". My 6ft 6 Italian friend Tony had to be held at bay and wanted to rip his ears off......

With that i got my records and left mid set. In all my days of djing, i have never seen this happen even at the worst house party in Ireland, never mind a club where punters had paid 25 dollars to here music.........

When he did go on, his tunes were also dirt and months old, and the crowd id spent my set pleasing, left and so did i. Apparently the brief stopage in the music upset most of the crowd and they left for another club, pissed off by the ametuer bullshit they had just witnessed.

These lads i now know, are scared shitless of us European djs and will do anything to prevent us showing them up........

No Dj ethics, no honour, no balls, and behind the times with their music, is my opinion.

For those of u intending to ever go there and crack the scene, expect stiff resistence from djs who have nothing, and never will, because they dont have the balls to go 1 on 1 with European djs on the decks.

Were years ahead, lets stay there..........Heres some pics anyway

Speak for yourself Daz! Well i'm an Irish DJ in Australia, I pretty much nicked a gig off the two local boys here, but there's only been minor animosity from them, immature shit really.
I've had some bad experiences with DJs, the first time I entered a comp these 3 fuck wits heckled me chanting "you're shit, you're shit" for about 5 minutes until the bouncers told them to piss off. They were DJs, also in the comp, and were chatning that cos I was using CD decks! Where are they now? Gary Fitzgerald and cru? No one knows? Me either! Hah! (not bitter though you understand)
I don't think it's the domain of Aussie DJs, i think a lot of DJs are about image etc, and this pick on the outsider mentality is in all ppl, DJs or not, it just seems more commonplace with DJs, I suppose cos of the ego thing involved?

Hay Azurik, sorry to here about your gig man, i realy am. there's nothing worse than having to deal with those kind of distraction's while your working but it happens so concentrate on getting your next gig elsewhere. I had an issue recently with a bloke who considered himself an MC (which he was'nt) mainly because he kept sreaming the most ridiculous crap over my set and his levels we're all over the place which meant, he was annoying virtually everybody on the floor everytime he opened his mouth. So it had to be done, i plugged out his mic and told him to shut up. Moral of the story. Sometimes you have to put your foot down!

Perth for those of you who don't know, is on the west coast of Australia which is basicly 10 years behind the rest of Australia in every aspect especially music. If you wanna play seriously and actually make it as a working DJ in OZ go to Melbourne or Sydney thats it.

check this nightmare out, derry promoter:

                    QUOTE:
We would rather be sitting at this stage reminiscing about a great night but
instead we feel compelled to set the record straight about the actions of Miss
Kittin at our event on Friday night past. After years of negotiations, we
finally secured a date for Miss Kittin to play at our clubnight. It was a night
we were really looking forward to enjoying ourselves but due to the actions of
Miss Kittin, we found this impossible. In all our time of promoting parties, we
feel we have never been treated so badly by a visiting artist.

The venue we had chosen to put Miss Kittin on was The Nerve Centre where we have
put on a variety of DJ’s and live acts including Laurent Garnier, Dave Clarke,
X-Press 2, Mylo, 2020 Soundsystem, Jon Carter, Layo & Bushwacka, Justin
Robertson, Slam, Paul Daley, Tom Middleton, Erol Alkan, Andrew Weatherall, Lee
Burridge, Mr C, David Holmes, DJ Format & MC Abdominal, Radioactive Man,
Fingathing, Silicone Soul, Umek, Craig Richards, James Zabiela, Billy Nasty,
Jazzanova, James Lavelle, Scratch Perverts, DJ Craze, The Psychonauts, Si Begg.
The Nerve Centre has also hosted some of the biggest names in rock music
including The Thrills, The Undertones, Ian Brown, The Zutons, Embrace, Gomez,
David Gray, Sinead O’Connor, The Doves.

Miss Kittin was picked up at Belfast Airport by taxi which transported her to
The Tower Hotel in Derry where we had booked her the most expensive suite as
well as an additional room for her manager. On meeting Miss Kittin and her
manager outside the hotel and welcoming them to our city, we were greeted by
Miss Kittin with ‘It’s fucking freezing’ - no hello, nothing.

On returning to the hotel to bring Miss Kittin and her manager to the club, we
advised Miss Kittin that the club was next door to the hotel so we would walk to
the club. After walking no more than 15 metres, Miss Kittin stopped dead in her
tracks and said ‘This is next door… where is the fucking club?’ We told Miss
Kittin that the club was just another 30 metres away round the corner.

We then took Miss Kittin to the boardroom of The Nerve Centre where we had a
large range of drinks, fruit and various snacks prepared for her. Initially
refusing a drink, Caroline then said ‘How am I meant to enjoy myself tonight.
It took me six fucking hours to get here and I’m fucking freezing. I could have
been in New York’. Prior to booking her extremely expensive flights, we had
suggested several alternative travel options to Miss Kittin that would have got
her to Derry quicker. We also warned her of the regular delays that take place
at Heathrow on Friday evenings. However there was no flexibility with Miss
                    Kittin regarding flights.

Miss Kittin eventually decided to have a bottle of water but complained that she
did not want the water if it was too cold as she was already ‘fucking freezing’.
We then brought Miss Kittin upstairs to the venue to commence her set. We pride
ourselves on providing everything artists ask for. The setup on stage was
perfect, as was asked for in the contract. Both our resident DJ’s tried to
introduce themselves to Miss Kittin but were greeted with a hateful ‘I don’t
understand you’. After starting her set, we are informed by her manager that
there was a problem. Basically, the problem was that Caroline was used to
playing in bigger venues in front of larger crowds. At this stage the venue was
only open an hour and there were nearly 300 people in the venue and there were
people still coming in to the club.

We are then informed that Miss Kittin will play for 1 hour only and that we
should have one of our DJ’s ready to take over. Informed by her manager that
there was no way of changing her mind, one of our residents took over from Miss
Kittin after she had played 75 minutes. At the end of the night, when paying her
fee to her manager, we asked what should we say to the clubbers who had came to
the club to hear Miss Kittin. He informed us that we should lie, ‘tell the
people she was sick or something as she has fans and she would not want to
                    disappoint her fans.’

These are the fans that she refused to acknowledge all night and basically
refused to play for. We have always found that truth is the best policy and we
are not going to change now and we don’t believe feigning illness for Miss
Kittin to keep her reputation intact as a good enough reason to change this
policy. Within the genres of music we promote, we find that the majority of
people that we invite to play are likeminded people, sociable and polite but
more importantly professional. In almost eight years of putting on parties, Miss
Kittin is the outstanding exception to this rule.

We have been lucky enough to host some of the world’s top DJ’s and producers
over the years who always retain a sense of honesty and humility. Derry may not
be as cosmopolitan as New York, Paris or Milan but you will be hard pushed to
find a more receptive or passionate crowd. Most visiting DJ’s comment on the
great reaction and warmth of the people. There is no excuse or valid reason for
Miss Kittin’s actions on Friday night. She was getting paid a lot of money to
play records for a couple of hours. All we wanted was for her to do her job.

miss kitten??? dont see the point, plenty of djs here in ireland that would teach her a lil thing r two...

promoters should be focusing on local talent as apposed to shit like that, sure we've the likes of "daz fay" who would kick ass just as much as any proggressive dj in europe, and DJ Azurik, who is up there with the hardstyle legends of yoji biomehanika and deep pack, and both these djs are irish.

whats de point in puttin on big name djs? fuck all if you ask me. Ill give any of them a run for their money. DJing isnt about the money, or the flights or the hotel, its about the unity and the level you reach with your audience, the power to release an energy among a crowd.

                        Miss Kitten??? Miss Shitten

thanks Mr Power, i was thinkin maybe it was me being the bolox. When a group of djs gets in your face in another country it aint easy deal with it. The djs i played with in Thailand were seriously cool, and allowed me to finish the nite on my own note, even though we all played bk2bk.....

Not only has the scene died in standards of music, but the people that are meant to be driving it, are digging the hole that it will eventually be buried in.

As for mrs Kitten, u should have given her a banana, and told her to go do somthing usefull with it. Maybe she needed to let off some "steam" after her flight............spoilt shit.....lesson learnt though my Derry friends.

We maybe shit, backward, and what ever else, but we still know how 2 do it doggy style in Ireland. Im only realising this now.

All this has made me homesick, how i yearn for the grassy knowles of Westmeath.........He,he maybe not just yet though

Peace and Karma my Irish brudren
