Well I can see the point about not playing hard music. You could take the general opinion that it caters more to drug use than say... soulful house. That's not really a problem in itself in this day of enlightened people but the thing about people who take ***** at clubs is that they don't spend money which is not good if you're a club owner, plus it attracts attention from the Shuckanonee, which is also bad. The problem with Ireland is the low population density, as compared with the UK for instance. Not enough of an underground means there's not enough support for underground (style) clubs. If you look at the UK for instance there is no REAL underground since the whole scene is sooo big there that there's all kinds of clubs for all kinds of styles. How many electro clubs are there in Ireland (electro is shit by the way IMHO but it's a relative minority in the music scene), not many outside Dublin I'd say. So whereas there are loads of ppl in the UK and in bigger cities to support minority styles the same is not true in Ireland. Look at Cork for instance (my home), how many trance/hard house/NRG clubs are there? None? And it's the biggest county in the country with the second largest population. This might have something to do with the fact that Henry's & Radio Friendly et al ruled the roost for years but look at SG-1 in Fermoy, a prime club, in it's approach at least, but it never really took off, for what reason?
So IMHO the scene is pretty much on a stalemate in Ireland, maybe not now but it was when i left. The reasons being that there's not enough support to get good clubs going that dare to think outside the square (or is it circle) and book DJs who are blindingly good, who, if they did get support, then would be at the spearhead of the development of a scene. Dublin's all wwell and good, it should be since it's the capital but even then...
Any b4 anyone flames me i'd just like to add that this rant is just my observation from a DJ & promoter of over 4 years work in Ireland and never having really got anywhere apart from a couple of gigs here and there in Galway and Kilkenny, and Cork obviously...

and cork is even worse than the other mentioned towns,
the lads sold 600 ickets in kilkenny for tidy boys, in cork they'd just laugh at ya. tidy what?
