  • butsie gets busted!

Poor old butsie got zinged by the taxman.. remember kids, if a man in a nightclub hands you cash for work you have done, you have to DO YOUR OWN tax.. Ask an accountant, they know all about things like that.

Artists and Musicians do not have to pay tax on royalties which is money earned from sale of their works, as in every time a U2 record is played on a licensed radio station IMRO (Irish Music Rights Organisation) collect monies paid by that station which goes into a slush fund and eventually U2 get their few quid (as would every other Irish band who are registered with IMRO).

Right, that's the wank outta the way.

Point is this: A musician doesn't have to pay any tax on income from their music until they earn over €750,000 from it. (Used to be no limit, but Brian Cowen changed that as minister for bringdown in 2005/6)

Now if a DJ could exploit some loophole whereby he/she could get to that "musician" status, then would they be untaxable until they earn over €750,000?

Is there a legal head somewhere in this forum? Or I could be talking shite and all the above is a pleasant trip in the clouds... still though - no tax until 750 laaaj would be worth investigating.
