‘Rodney Trotter’ (DOZER)
This is the first release on Paul Jackson’s new label and we’re very happy to report that it is absolutely stuffed with character. The original takes the blue print laid down by New Order’s “Blue Monday” (as well as the kick and hi-hats) and rewrites it with a galloping, poppy bass line that sounds likes quite a few different early nineties rave records. It’s a period in time that has been plundered into heavily, yet it sounds pretty fresh – it’s certainly been moving the big rooms for ourselves. A couple of cool remixes accompany the original, most notably Paul Jackson’s “Acid Reedit” which emphasizes the bit that sounds like “Rez” then pretty much, totally unexpectedly takes a right turn into the fattest acid riff – totally wicked. Finally, Rui Da Silva turns up the darkness for a scary minimal excursion for the very early hours.
