I'd agree that most of his fans now are the "grown up" hard house types who think theyre out of all that now cos they like "Murder was the bass" & all that type of stuff.
He also plays techno like a trance DJ

Apparently from hard house inside sources he used to swing both ways back in the day too.....kinky
So Trade wasn't an underground club Darren? It was and still is. You can hardly call it mainstream can you? Fergie didn't just hit the scene during that HH boom - he'd been around before that. TDV first spotted him in 1996, he didn't hit the mainstream til 2000-2001. No Mixmag covers in the intervening years was there?

I'll state again that I don't know any HH fan who was into Fergie then that's into him now - just random God's Kitchen clubbers etc who'd go see anyone. I'm a "grown up hard house type" as you know and I certainly amn't. And Murder Was The Bass isn't all that but what's the big deal if HH fans like it? There's always being a middle ground between techno and HH and that tune is a lot closer to HH than it is to trance.

Fair enough, true techno fans don't like Fergie buts I suppose they'd be the same about a trance DJ such as Jules crossing over into their territory too.

lol Ive only just copped who im talking to here....

Devo how can you say Trade isnt a mainstream club....it may not be Godskitchen or Cream, but over the years its always been the most famous hard house club in the UK....spawning numerous compilations & even having their own record label, plus the fact that you & I are both playing at the Irish leg of their "world tour" next week....if thats not mainstream what is???

Before Tdv died fergie was just some young lad who used to go on first at Trade, he was no "hero" ...granted the story goes that fergie took on all his residencies after he died but De Vit didnt die till July 1998, fergie had that "friction" thing out on rudeboy in 1999 which by then he was already pretty mainstream in terms of magazine articles & coverage, being touted as TDV's golden boy....the mainturning point for him was when he became friends & involved with Jules...the same way Eddie Haliwell is being whored around at the moment by the judge

I can guarantee you that theres still loadsa hard house heads in wexford who are mad for fergie...the amount of times Ive been asked by people when are we gonna get him for a "Revolution" is unbelieveable....then when i tell them probably never cos hes way overpriced & load of bollocks they all jump to defend him tellin me "whas wrong wit'chu..he'd pack it out of it like....hes leeeeethal"

Dosnt matter anyway as long as we both agree that hes absolute shit these days

Yes it's the most famous HH club but HH was never exactly mainstream in UK or here, I'd be willing to guess that trance & certain house & techno labels have way higher sales figures than most HH labels. I still wouldn't consider Trade mainstream. Without knowing sales figures etc for a lot of their compilations, I wouldn't presume they sold a lot. The one that did best was prob Trade Love Parade and that was because it came out during the hard house boom around 2000. Even then, that CD contained totally different tracks to what every other HH compilation was churning out. Trade is only open monthly now and prob only pulls a crowd of a few hundred each time.

As for the gig, are you saying we're mainstream now .

I think you're under the impression that because Fergie wasn't mainstream at the start of his career that he wasn't seen as a hero. That's why I said an underground hero & I have that from reliable sources who were part of the London HH Scene at the time.

As for the Wexford HH heads - they obviously haven't heard him 4 a while!

I was a kid when Fergie was hittin the big time and am HH head at heart, havin said that im into a bit of house now 2, which i never thought i would b! But i still like Fergie, mainly because the respect i have 4him because of what he's achieved!

I Have started buyin techno records over the last few months and Ricer i no wat u mean by " he plays techno like a trance dj" Obviously he's no Chris fink or liebing when it comes to techno, them boys both crammin 30 tunes into a half an hour on a couple of their sets, and done in fucken style 2!
As 4 'murder was the bass' seems to me every1 loved that tune, From Halliwell to Johnny Power, that track got caned!

Ye lads obviously no more than i do about 'trade' , but is was The trade residency that firmly established TDV as a big name in 91, de vit being my idol..or whtever u want 2 call it! I always think of that place as a steppin stone 4 one of the greatest Dj's that ever lived! Times change, does it really matter whether its known as 'underground' today or not?

Yes that's the place and YES it does matter in the context of this discussion as myself & Ricer were debating whther or not Fergie was an underground hero.
