PICOTTO & PSYCATRON
RESISTANCE SUMMER PARTY
FORUM WATERFORD, SAT 14 JULY
Italian super-star DJ, Mauro Picotto, and fast rising Irish techno act, Psycatron, play the Resistance Summer Party at The Forum on Saturday 14 July, with support from local lads Alan Harris and Joe Gould from Retech. Believe it or not, its 10 years now since that first Resistance Party in South with Green Velvet playing a live set, and throughout the rest of 2012, Resistance will be organising a number of partys to celebrate the anniversary. During those 10 years Resistance has brought Laurent Garnier, Jeff Mills, Timo Maas, Dave Clarke, Carl Craig, Green Velvet, Roger Sanchez, Groove Armada, Mylo, Slam, Felix Da Housecat, Erol Alkan, Steve Lawler, Derrick May, Juan Atkins, Derrick Carter, Joris Voorn, Kerri Chandler, Andrew Weatherall, Stanton Warriors, Christian Smith, James Lavelle, Phil Kieran and many more to Waterford for memorable partys. Tickets for the Summer Party (€15) are on sale now at Next Door (Forum), 051 871111 or www.forumwaterford.com .
Mauro Picotto first began playing records in 1984 at the age of eighteen, at a club in Piedmont called Top Sound. By 1988 he was a finalist in the Italian DMC and devoted much of the following year to the production of his first album as “R.A.F”, soon becoming one of the leading producers at Media Records in Italy. Mauro’s series of massive tracks at that time (Bakerloo Symphony, Iguana, Komodo, Lizard) made him one of the Top 10 most popular DJs in the world. The new millennium saw a change of direction for Mauro with his new label, Alchemy, and his club brand, Meganite. The latter was a huge success in Ibiza introducing new talent like Chris Liebing, Adam Beyer and Marco Carola, and also bringing techno back to the “white isle” big time, alongside Cocoon. More recently, Mauro released an album “2010” in that year, and secured a residency at Space (Ibiza) for their “Come Together” partys. That album and “2011” last year, confirmed that his musical taste and creativity is still spot on. To date Mauro Picotto has released over 600 productions and remixes, selling over 6 million copies worldwide. He has played in all the best clubs around the globe as well as prestigious events like Love Parade, Creamfields, Ultra, Time Warp and Awakenings. This will be Mauro’s second performance for Resistance.
Berlinetroit is a musical alliance that resonates deeply with electronic music lovers around the world. Add Belfast to this equation and you have Irish duo Psycatron, who have dropped releases on both sides of the Atlantic through Carl Craig's Planet E Communications from Detroit and Berlins' legendary Tresor imprint. Their touring schedule has followed a similar global trajectory, touching down everywhere from Fabric (London) to The Rex Club (Paris), to Movement Festival in Detroit, I Love Techno in Belgium and many more of the best clubs and festivals worldwide. With musical influences ranging from Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk to Underground Resistance and Jean Michel Jarre, it's easy to see where the raw emotion, tension and energy prevalent in their music stems from. Being born less than 12 hours apart and subsequently growing up hitting the same techno parties in Belfast, is another common bond that has helped shape the Psycatron sound, where the past clearly influences the future but has an entirely different slant on it. Among their fan count you'll find the likes Depeche Mode's Martin Gore, Francois K and Dave Clarke.
